Bentonville To Test Sirens Friday

BENTONVILLE -- The city will test storm warning sirens at 1 p.m. Friday, weather permitting, according to a news release.

The sirens will sound twice during the test, as they would in an actual emergency.

The first sound will be a steady blast for three minutes, according to the release. It signifies that a dangerous storm is approaching the city, and all residents should take shelter.

The second sound will be alternating high and low tones for 45 seconds, according to the release. This signifies that the weather has passed, and the city is no longer in danger.

The warning system is designed to alert people who are outside, according to the release. People inside a building might not hear the sirens, and should use a radio, television or weather alert radio to monitor weather conditions.

Residents can sign up for alerts at www.bcalert.com. Alerts can be sent to cellphones, home phones, text messages and email.
