Tom Cotton Is Off The Mark

Tom Cotton was one of 33 House Republicans who signed a letter to the president last week demanding that he end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy which, as its name suggests, keeps young people with longstanding ties to the U.S. from being deported. It allows young people who came to the U.S. as children at least 10 years ago, have no criminal record and have graduated high school to apply for green cards.

The letter blames DACA (and, therefore, the president) for the current crisis of unaccompanied minors crossing the border illegally. This, despite the fact that none of the aforementioned 52,000 minors would be protected by DACA. It is a cynical step toward getting rid of the so-called Dream Act young people.

Just one more good reason not to vote for Tom Cotton this year.

What's Next, Benton County?

This newspaper has recently published two pieces regarding the failure of leadership and accountability in Benton County. The first had to do with an off-duty sheriff's deputy wrecking a county vehicle while moonlighting on another job. The second involved the county destroying private property while searching for a missing person and then not repairing what they destroyed until taken to court. Both instances reflect a lack of leadership and a failure in accountability and responsibility in the departments involved. Given this track record, I wonder when the next occurrence will surface.
