56th annual show previews works and award winners at reception

Artists from across the Delta region mingled with members of the Arkansas Arts Center on June 26 at a preview of the 56th annual Arkansas Delta Exhibition.

The artists there had work featured in the exhibition, which is on display through Sept. 28 in the Townsend Wolfe Gallery. There were more than 1,300 works submitted for the show with 65 pieces accepted. It was juried by Brian Rutenberg, a South Carolina native living in New York.

David Bailin of Little Rock received the Grand Award for his work, Slippage. Delta Award winners were Robin Tucker of Little Rock and Jeff Sharp of Bryant.

At a Southern-theme reception in the Arts Center's atrium, guests dined on Southern favorites: fried catfish, hush puppies and coleslaw. The signature drink of the evening was the Pecan Grove Tonic made with pecan-infused vodka courtesy of Cathead Vodka distilled in the Mississippi Delta, according to event planner Todd Bagwell.

The Davis Coen Trio of Memphis entertained with Delta blues music.
