Boat Fire in Rogers Causes Home Damage

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Fire spread from a boat to the exterior of a home Tuesday night, causing some damage, said Tom Jenkins, Rogers fire chief.

Fire broke out on the seat of a fishing-style boat at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday at 510 S. 13th St. The radiant heat from the fire then caught the adjacent home’s soffit on fire, Jenkins said.

Flames were showing when firefighters arrived, according to a Fire Department report. Fire spread to the attic before firefighters put it out, Jenkins said.

No one was injured.

Damage to the 1,348-square-foot home was light, Jenkins said. Damage to the home is estimated to be about $5,000, but the boat is a total loss, he said.

The house has an estimated value of about $84,000, according to Benton County property records. It is owned by Ira and Nancy Canoy of Springdale, according to property records.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Jenkins said.
