Holly's Murder Trial Postponed

— Zachary Holly's murder trial was postponed until July 29 in Benton County Circuit Court this morning.

Holly, 28, is charged with capital murder, kidnapping, rape and residential burglary in connection with the 2012 murder of Jersey Bridgeman.

His trial was scheduled to begin April 15, but Circuit Judge Brad Karren granted a motion to postpone the trial. The delay is related to efforts by Holly's attorneys to get records from the California Department of Human Services.

Van Stone, Benton County's prosecuting attorney, did not object to the delay. Stone said he knew the materials that the defense is seeking, and it is not a delaying tactic.

Neither Holly's attorneys nor prosecutors went into detail about what the records involved.

A suppression hearing is now slated for April 15.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Jersey's body was found in an abandoned house next to Holly 's home Nov. 20. A medical examiner determined Jersey died from asphyxia, according to court documents.

Holly lived next door to Jersey's family on Southwest A Street in Bentonville, and he and his wife sometimes baby-sat Jersey and her younger sister, according to court documents.

Holly is being held without bond in the Benton County Jail.
