Burns Planned For Bella Vista Lake Dams

BELLA VISTA — The Property Owners Association and the Fire Department plan to burn the Lake Windsor and Loch Lomond dams in February.

The burn dates will be determined by humidity, weather and local burn bans, Lakes and Parks Superintendent Vern Olafson said in a news release.

The association requested the controlled burn because the thickness of the brush is making it difficult for personnel to get on the dams for maintenance issues. Also, large roots can loosen the soil, weakening the dam and causing erosion. Controlled burns also provide better vegetative growth, Olafson said.

Controlled burns are recommended by the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.
