Fayetteville Police Investigation Findings Released

— Fayetteville police have released their findings from an internal investigation of a patrolman arrested in connection with rape.

James Stiles, 31, of 6870 W. Goose Creek Road was arrested in connection with rape, second-degree sexual assault and burglary. Charges have not been filed. Stiles has a Feb. 12 arraignment date.

A woman reported Nov. 10 that Stiles raped her in her home. A former Police Department employee reported Stiles assaulted her in July in her home. Stiles was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 4.

Stiles was fired for policy violations after the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division.

Correction: Stiles was arrested in connection with rape but formal charges have not been filed. A previous version of this story misstated the state of criminal proceedings against Stiles. The error has been corrected.
