Fire broke out at a base of a wooded ravine off North Summit Drive in Rogers Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters ran extra hose and battled the blaze to save a barn and nearby threatened homes. The fire ran down toward lake Atalanta by 1 p.m. Kevin Carter, a neighbor who called in the fire, saw smoke and flames climbing the hill, he said.

Carter said he thought someone might have been burning earlier, but he didn't know the cause of the fire. A call to Tom Jenkins, Rogers fire chief, had not been returned as of 1:20 p.m.
