Two more counties added to burn-ban list

Sunday, January 26, 2014

The Arkansas Forestry Commission said burn bans are in effect in 42 counties as the entire state remains under high wildfire danger.

Humidity levels across the state today might be no more than 35 percent and wind gusts might exceed 10 mph, both of which can contribute to high fire activity.

The highest fire danger is in northern Arkansas.

On Saturday, wildfires burned in Calhoun, Carroll, Clark, Clay, Faulkner, Jefferson, Logan, Nevada, Saline, Union, White and Yell counties. As of Saturday afternoon, fires were also still burning in Cleveland, Grantand Sebastian counties.

Ouachita and Clay counties were added to the burnban list Saturday, the commission said on its Twitter feed.

They joined 40 other counties: Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clark, Cleburne, Conway, Crawford, Dallas, Faulkner, Franklin, Fulton, Garland, Greene, Howard, Independence, Izard, Jefferson, Johnson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Logan, Lonoke, Marion, Newton, Perry, Pike, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Searcy, Sebastian, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren, Washington, White and Yell.
