Flashy’s eye on Bayakoa

HOT SPRINGS - Multiple stakes winner Flashy American worked 3 furlongs in :36.60 on Saturday morning at Oaklawn Park in preparation for her 2014 debut.

Following the work, trainer Ken McPeek said the 5-year-old mare is being pointed for the $100,000 Bayakoa Stakes on Feb. 16.

McPeek said the major spring objective for Flashy American, a career winner of $423,163, is the $500,000 Grade I Apple Blossom Handicap on April 11.

Flashy American hasn’t started since finishing third in the $150,000 Grade II Falls City Handicap on Nov.

28 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

The Falls City runner-up, Don’t Tell Sophia, is also pointing for the Bayakoa, trainer Phil Sims said. Don’t Tell Sophia is the defending Bayakoa champion.

McPeek said there is a“good chance” Rosalind will run in the $150,000 Grade III Honeybee Stakes for 3-yearold fillies March 8.

Rosalind, who worked a half-mile in :50.57 on Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park near Miami, ran third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

McPeek was in Hot Springs this weekend to check on his Oaklawn division. He also has a division in Florida.

Rulings

Jockey Jon Court began serving a three-day riding suspension Saturday after dropping his appeal, track stewards said.
