No Problems At Fayetteville High School Tuesday

— About 40 more students than average were absent Tuesday at Fayetteville High School after officials found a handwritten bomb threat on a restroom wall.

Principal Steve Jacoby said absences are counted as “parent contact,” meaning a parent or guardian reports the student’s absence. About 1,800 students are enrolled in the high school.

The message said, “Ima bomb school tomorrow,” according to school officials. A student told school administrators about the message about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Police Sgt. Craig Stout said more officers than usual were at the school Tuesday. Two school resource officers are on duty daily.

School resource officers reviewed a videotape from a surveillance camera across from the restroom to see who entered and left Monday. The investigation continues.

Police Sgt. Craig Stout said there's no way to know when the message was written.

If a student is caught, he or she will be recommended for expulsion and could face criminal charges, Jacoby said. The School Board decides all expulsion cases.

Communicating a false alarm is considered a Class A misdemeanor and a conviction could carry up to one year in jail.

No arrests have been made regarding the incident, Stout said. A teen was arrested on a juvenile warrant at the high school Tuesday morning. Stout said his arrest wasn't connected to the bomb threat.
