BASKETBALL Jackson SEC freshman of the week

Arkansas forward Jessica Jackson, from Jacksonville, has been named the SEC women’s freshman of the week for the third time this season.

Jackson scored a career-high 31 points and had 10 rebounds in the Razorbacks’ 68-65 victory over Mississippi on Sunday after scoring 24 points in their 60-58 loss at Georgia on Thursday night.

Delph honored by GAC

Ouachita Baptist guard Micah Delph was named Great American Conference men’s player of the week Monday.

Delph, a junior from Conway, made 10 of 13 three-pointers in OBU’s 87-71 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, tying a school record and setting the GAC mark. He scored 36 points in that game, then he scored 24 points in a Saturday loss at Southwestern Oklahoma State.

TRACK AND FIELD National honor for Scott

Arkansas junior Dominique Scott has been named national athlete of the week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after she won the mile in 4 minutes, 44.78 seconds and added a a 4:38.49 mile leg during the distance medley relay to help the No. 7 Razorbacks to a 91-63 dual meet victory over No. 1 Texas on Friday night. The distance medley relay team ran a collegiate-leading 11:25.58.

BASEBALL Arkansas’ Anderson preseason All-American

Arkansas second baseman Brian Anderson was named second-team preseason All-American by Perfect Game on Monday.

Anderson started 59 games for the Razorbacks in 2013, leading the team with a .325 batting average, 47 runs scored, 68 hits, 12 doubles, 5 triples, 102 total bases, 41 walks, a .488 slugging percentage and on-base percentage at .448. He also tied for the team lead with four home runs and had 36 RBI.

In his two-year career, he has appeared in 106 games, starting in 92 with a .310 average, 6 home runs, 47 RBI, 70 runs scored, 16 doubles and 5 triples.

GYMNASTICS Grable rises to top

Arkansas senior gymnast Katherine Grable moved to the No. 1 ranking for all-around performers by Gyminfo this week.

Grable from Oshkosh, Wis., scored a 39.525 in the all-around in No. 10 Arkansas’ victory at Missouri on Friday to take the top spot. Her average score in the all-around through two meets is 39.5. Grable also held the No. 1 spot for two weeks during the 2012 season.

Grable is also ranked No. 9 nationally on the balance beam and No. 10 on the floor exercise. The Razorbacks, who maintained their No. 10 ranking with a 196.05 score at Missouri, face No. 7 Alabama on the road Friday.

Arkansas sophomore Sydnie Dillard ranks eighth on the balance beam, while senior Shelby Salmon is No. 14 on the uneven bars and freshman Amanda Wellick is No. 21 in the all-around.
