Don Tyson Parkway and 40th Street signal could be completed in August

SPRINGDALE — The installation of a traffic signal at Don Tyson Parkway and 40th Street could be completed before a street-widening project.

A City Council committee scheduled a vote on separating the traffic signal work from construction on the parkway for Tuesday's meeting. The widening of Don Tyson Parkway from 40th Street to Carley Road has been delayed by design changes and right-of-way acquisition, said Alan Pugh, city director of engineering.

The delays pushed the probable competition time for the signal as part of the widening project past Aug. 1, the date that would allow the signal to be operating when school resumes in the fall. Helen Tyson Middle School is located on 40th Street, north of the proposed signal location.

The signal, estimated to cost $160,000, would be operational by Aug. 1 as a separate construction contract, Pugh said.
