ATHENS, Ga. - Overtime is becoming the norm for the Arkansas Razorbacks, who lost 66-61 at Georgia on Saturday in their third consecutive overtime game.

It is the first time Arkansas has had three consecutive games go to overtime.

“We’ve got to finish up in regulation,” Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. “I think that should be the answer to that question. Let’s finish it up in regulation.”

Drought central

Arkansas had four droughts of at least four minutes without a field goal, including a span of 6:58 midway through the second half.

The Razorbacks had a chance to build on a 41-34 lead after Fred Gulley’s driving layup at the 15:56 mark, but the Hogs hit a lull and Georgia closed to within 41-40 on Kenny Gaines’ jumper with 9:26 remaining.

Arkansas missed nine consecutive shots in that span and committed four turnovers, including a three-second call on Alandise Harris and a carrying infraction on Ky Madden.

“There are times when it flows great, we look great and we’re making shots, and sometimes we’ll get stagnant,” Gulley said.

“That’s the time we have lulls in our game and it’s kind of hard for us to score.” Qualls stalls

Michael Qualls was unable to follow up on Tuesday night’s highlight reel 18-point performance in an overtime victory over Kentucky, when he put an exclamation point on Arkansas’ victory with a game-winning dunk.

Qualls made 1 of 10 shots Saturday, with his basket coming on a goal-tending call against Georgia in the final minute of overtime, and scored three points.

Qualls, a sophomore, has made 2 of 22 shots during Arkansas’ 0-2 road start in the SEC.

Board butchered

Arkansas was out rebounded 56-34by Georgia, giving the Razorbacks a 192-149 deficit in their four SEC games.

Arkansas ranked 13th in the SEC with a minus 7.0 rebounding margin before Saturday. The Hogs now have a minus 10.75 deficit in SEC games.

Shaky edge

Arkansas led 29-28 at halftime despite shooting 35.7 percent.

The Razorbacks had a scoreless stretch of 4:16 in which their 22-17 lead turned into a 25-22 deficit as the Bulldogs took control on the backboards.

A three-pointer by Fred Gulley at the 2:51 mark tied the game at 25-25, and Coty Clarke hit two shots from in close to provide Arkansas’ halftime edge.

Two times 3

Ky Madden was Arkansas’ most efficient offensive player in the opening half, converting two three-point plays.

Madden received a give-and-go from Michael Qualls, who was not credited with an assist, drew a foul on Charles Mann and made the free throw for a 19-15 lead.

Madden and Qualls teamed up less than two minutes later, with Madden catching an almost length-of-the-floor pass from Qualls and turning it in to another three-point play.

The series

Arkansas’ lead in the series is now 17-14. The Razorbacks’ last victory at Georgia came during the 2010 season.
