5A-WEST BOYS

Sluggish Goblins good enough

HARRISON - Harrison remained unbeaten in 5A-West Conference play Friday night, overcoming sluggish shooting in the first half for a 64-58 victory over Greenbrier.

The Goblins, Class 5A’s top-ranked team, never led in the first half, trailed by as many as six and were down 30-25 at halftime after senior Jordan Grant was held to one point in the first two quarters.

Harrison (12-3, 3-0) opened the second half with a 7-1 run, however, taking its first lead of the night, 32-31, at the 5:16 mark on a basket by Carson Jenkins. Grenbrier (9-7, 1-2) answered by scoring the next five points for a 36-32 lead, and it was tied 38-38 when Wilson Marseilles ended the third with a three-pointer to give Harrison a 41-38 edge.

Greenbrier’s Justin Tims, who led all scorers with 25 points, scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to cut the gap to a single point, but Harrison scored the next six points to go up 47-40 and eventually led 52-43 after a three-pointer by Grant.

The Panthers closed the gap to 52-48, but Harrison converted eight consecutive free throws for its biggest advantage of the night, 60-49.

Silas Huskey led Harrison with 18 points. Grant finished with 14, and Marseilles and Jenkins had 10 points each.

Tyler Simmons scored 17 points for Greenbrier.
