Henson seals it from line

GREENWOOD - Senior guard Haleigh Henson didn’t make much of an impact early for Greenwood, but she more than made up for it late in the game Friday night.

Henson helped hold off Little Rock Hall by scoring 11 points and hitting 8 of 11 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter in a 69-58 victory at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena.

“She hit a big three to start the quarter and was hitting the free throws at the end,” Greenwood Coach Clay Reeves said. “She is a great shooter, but there are times when shooters don’t have good nights. She didn’t have a great night early, but she stepped up and hit all those free throws down the stretch.”

Greenwood (12-2, 3-0 7A/6A-Central) jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game and extended it to 19-9 after a strong eight-point performance in the first quarter by senior point guard Lundon Williams, who had a game high 20 points.

Megan Hartness and Sarah Elkins scored six points each in the second quarter as Greenwood extended its lead to 34-16.

Hall (12-6, 1-2) closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run to cut Greenwood’s lead to 34-21 going into halftime.

The Lady Warriors narrowed the lead to 59-49 with 2:45 left in the game, but the Lady Bulldogs closed it out at the free-throw line.

“There isn’t much to say about this game,” Little Rock Hall’s Selita Farr said.

Despite leading from start to finish, Reeves said the game was a play or two away from swinging in Hall’s favor.

“No lead felt safe because they are quick enough to get a steal at any time and score,” Reeves said. “Fortunately we took care of it. We weren’t shooting great at the free throw line, but I’m glad we made them at the end.”

Hall was led by Terralynn Dominick’s team-high 16 points. Taylor Collins, Rakia Lane and Shakyla Hill added 10 each for the Lady Warriors.
