Fayetteville High School Homeless Vigil Falls Short Of Goal

FAYETTEVILLE — High school students hope a donor comes forward to help them raise money for the school district’s homeless assistance program.

The students, all members of the Student Council, raised $5,000, far short of their $20,000 goal, said Vance Arnold, faculty sponsor for the council.

The annual Homeless Vigil was canceled twice in December because of snow and subfreezing temperatures. The students spent Monday night in cardboard boxes to raise money and awareness about homelessness among students.

The council sponsored a blood drive Tuesday, which is also an annual event on the day following the Homeless Vigil. Arnold said they collected 95 pints of blood.

“I was proud of the kids for persevering and trying to make a difference with all the roadblocks they encountered,” Arnold said. This was the first time in recent memory the event was moved from December to January.

Donors may pledge by emailing Arnold, [email protected], and the donor will receive an invoice.
