BENTONVILLE — A thinner Perry Davis Jr. appeared in court Friday morning and his apparent weight loss was discussed during the procedings.

Davis, 50, of Bentonville is charged with capital murder and kidnapping in connection with the August 2012 shooting death of his wife.

He is accused of killing his 44-year-old wife, Kelly. Police believe Davis shot himself after shooting his wife.

Davis has a prefrontal lobe injury from the wound and is now blind and suffers from retrograde amnesia because of the self-inflicted wound, according to court documents.

Davis sat at a table with his attorneys Madison Aydelott and Scott McElveen when Circuit Judge Brad Karren asked Davis about his health and weight.

Karren said he had seen Davis on several occasions in his courtroom and Friday he noticed a remarkable difference. “It appears you have lost a significant amount of weight,” Karren said.

The judge wanted to know how Davis was feeling health-wise.

“I’m okay, your honor,” Davis responded.

Karren asked Davis if he would be willing to have his blood drawn for medical purposes. The blood could only be used for medical diagnosis, Karren said.

Davis agreed cooperate with the blood draw.

Van Stone, Benton County’s prosecuting attorney agreed to the stipulation that the blood could only be used for medical purposes.

According to Aydelott, Davis has lost more than 100 pounds in the last six months.

Davis weighed 280 pounds when he was booked into the jail on Nov. 8, 2012.
