Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

BENTONVILLE — A Stillwater, Okla., man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for injuring his 1-month-old son.

Shane Leroy Houy, 27, pleaded guilty Thursday to domestic battery in the first degree, a Class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Siloam Springs Police received information on Nov. 15, 2009, Jeremy Houy had suffered a fractured skull and a cerebral hematoma. Shane Houy said his 1-month-old son fell off of a bed, according to a court affidavit.

The child was admitted to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital on Nov. 13, 2009, and later transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, according to court documents.

Shane Houy told police he sat down and the child fell off a bed, according to court documents.

The child had a long linear skull fracture to the left side of his head and a skull fracture on the back of his head. The probable cause affidavit stated child maltreatment and physical abuse was suspected.

Circuit Judge Brad Karren accepted the plea agreement and Houy’s guilty plea.

Houy was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He also was given a 10-year suspended sentence, and he must pay $1,870 in court costs.

Houy was given credit for 445 days he spent in the Benton County Jail awaiting trial.
