Centerton Forum Set On Ambulance Issue

Friday, January 17, 2014

BENTONVILLE — The third in a series of meetings on Benton County’s proposal to fund rural ambulance service is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Centerton City Hall as part of the Centerton Mayor’s Coffee.

Susan Anglin, justice of the peace for District 9, and Barry Moehring, justice of the peace for District 15, will host the meeting.

The county has agreed to pay seven municipal fire departments providing rural ambulance service about $942,000 for 2014. The money would ensure the service is available, but not pay the cost of patient care. If a patient is transported by ambulance the service provider will bill Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance, if available, or bill the patient for the service.

The Quorum Court in September created an emergency medical services district with an $85 annual fee to be levied on households in the district. The district covers all of unincorporated Benton County except for the area served by the Northeast Benton County Fire Department’s ambulance service, which has its own district. If the district and fee are voted down, the county will have to find another funding source or not fund ambulance service.

Centerton City Hall is at 290 N. Main St.
