High Wind Causes Scattered Power Outages In Northwest Arkansas

Strong wind and wind gusts Sunday downed tree limbs and caused power outages in Northwest Arkansas, officials said.

Five power lines were down in Bella Vista, and about 100 people were without power Sunday evening, said Bryan Wolfgang, Bella Vista Fire Department battalion chief. Grisham Drive was completely without power, he said.

Carroll Electric Cooperative Corp. was aware of the problem and working to restore power, Wolfgang said.

Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative reported about 111 outages in Crawford, Pope and Franklin counties at 5 p.m. Sunday, according to the cooperative’s website. Entergy Corp. reported more scattered outages further down into the Arkansas River Valley, according to the company’s website.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa issued a warning, saying residents should watch for fire risks. The high wind could cause fire to spread rapidly. The service reported gusty winds had cause “scattered power outages” from falling tree limbs.

Wind gusts reached more than 45 mph in Benton and Washington counties Sunday, the service reported. Both Rogers and Fayetteville reported 50 mph winds Sunday afternoon.
