Fayetteville superintendent resigning

FAYETTEVILLE — Superintendent Vicki Thomas resigned as the school district’s chief executive officer Monday.

The resignation is effective at the end of her current contract on June 30, 2014.

The School Board unanimously accepted the resignation during a special meeting with Thomas on Monday.

Thomas said she and her husband, Steve, will return to Texas to help with the care of her 78-year-old mother-in-law who suffers from a neuromuscular disease which is progressive and degenerative.

Tim Hudson, school board president, said the board will develop a plan for replacing Thomas when the board meets on at 5 p.m. on Jan. 23.
