Parkview tops Greenwood

GREENWOOD - Little Rock Parkview Coach Al Flanigan could not have been more happy with the conference start of his new-look team Friday night against Greenwood at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena.

The Patriots (11-1, 1-0) used a balanced offense, took control early and never looked back in a 69-52 victory against the Bulldogs (4-7, 0-1) in 7A/6A-Central action.

Daryl Macon and Jaylen Franklin led the way scoring a team-high 15 points each, but their teammates weren’t too far off that. Jason Hendrix added 14 points, Charles Washington finished with 10 and Braelon Walker added 8.

“That’s the thing about our team this year is we are actually a team,” Flanigan said. “We had two guards who we knew would be shooting all the balls. Now we have five guys who can score double figures each night.”

Greenwood was led by senior Evan Lensing, who scored 21 points and had a 14-point first half to keep Greenwood in the game early.

“We acted like we didn’t know who the shooter was and Lensing was killing us,” Flanigan said. “But we turned up the pressure and they gave it to us a little bit. They played well, but we responded.”

The Patriots had a 14-3 run in the first quarter, but Greenwood cut the lead to 16-10 as the quarter ended. But Parkview didn’t look back after that, building a 52-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

“I thought we fought and battled tonight,” Greenwood Coach Brian Martin said. “We tried to make a game of it. Even though it was a loss, this was our most complete game for four quarters this year. That’s something we can build on.”
