Malzahn: Frazier leaving Auburn

Kiehl Frazier’s time is done at Auburn after three seasons, two head coaches and two position changes, Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn told Al.com on Friday.

Malzahn said Frazier, a former standout at Shiloh Christian in Springdale, hopes to fulfill his final season of eligibility at a school that will offer him the chance to play quarterback.

“He’s always been nothing but a winner with his attitude,” Malzahn said. “We’ve talked through the year. He just felt like at this time that he wanted to go somewhere and play quarterback. We wish him nothing but the best. He’ll do well.”

Al.com and 247sports.com reported that Frazier could land at Ouachita Baptist University, where his brother, Jed Beach, is an offensive lineman. When contacted Friday night, OBU Coach Todd Knight said “nothing is official” and that he had not talked to Frazier.

Frazier led Shiloh Christian to three consecutive state titles and signed with Auburn in 2011 when Malzahn was the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. He started the first five games at quarterback in 2012, completing 53.4 percent of his passes for 753 yards with 2 touchdowns and 8 interceptions as the Tigers went 3-9 in Gene Chizik’s final season as coach.

He lost the job to Nick Marshall before this season began and moved to safety. He played in only one game, Auburn’s 38-9 victory over Arkansas State on Sept. 7, and didn’t make a tackle. He moved back to offense before Auburn’s SEC opener against Mississippi State and finished the season with 10 carries for 34 yards.
