Brillo Estracell

Sponges are so handy when it comes to cleaning counters, sinks and pots and pans. But what happens after they've been used? They sit there on the rim of the sink, drying very slowly, with bits of food and assorted gunk stuck to their particles. Perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.

Lovely, no?

Brillo claims its Estracell sponges are more sanitary than your average sponge. Why? Because, they say, the material used to make the sponges dries faster and is therefore less likely to give haven to bacteria.

They don't feel much different from other kitchen sponges, but did dry fairly quickly during a test run. Not possessing a microscope, I'll just have to guess about the amount of bacteria and mold taking root.

One expects Brillo, they of the steel wool pads, to make a tough-scrubbing product, and this one doesn't disappoint. One side is soft and spongy, the other is rough and sturdy. Not quite as rough as the old steel wool scrubbers, but much easier on the hands.
