Fayetteville School District Revises Makeup Day Schedule

— The School District on Wednesday released a schedule for students to makeup days missed because of weather.

The first seven days will be made up Monday, Jan. 20, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday; Saturday, Jan. 25; Friday, March 14, previously scheduled for inservice; Friday, April 4, previously scheduled for parent-teacher conferences; Monday through Wednesday, June 2, 3 and 4.

If four more days are missed they will be made up June 5, 6, 9 and 10.

If a 12th day is missed, it will be made up Saturday, May 3.

An earlier version of the makeup days schedule included classes on four Saturdays and professional development and conference days.

Happy Hollow and Asbell elementary schools operate on a continuous learning calendar and the first seven days missed will be made up Jan. 20; Feb. 10, March 14, April 3, April 4; June 16 and 17. Days eight through 11 will be made up during the February intercession week when classes aren’t scheduled.

The missed days shouldn’t have a negative impact on learning because students will get the same content, said Kay Jacoby, executive director for curriculum, instruction, accountability and assessment.

Several of the makeup days are scheduled before the state-mandated Benchmark exams and end of course exams in algebra, geometry and biology as well as the 11th-grade literacy test. The end of course and literacy exams are tied to graduation.

The testing schedule starts March 11 with the 11th-grade literacy exams and ends May 13 for the algebra end-of-course exam. The Benchmark tests for third through eighth grades are scheduled April 7-11.
