Benton County

Ashley Schimmel, a sophomore women’s soccer player from Rogers, was named to the Academic Team at Westminister College in Fulton, Mo. Schimmel previously attended Heritage High School and is now majoring in biodiversity at Westminster.

Alexandria Krabbenhoft of Rogers has been named to the fall 2013 honor roll for Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

Students with a GPA between 3.65 and 3.99 are named to the honors list.

Sidhant Dalal, a senior from Bentonville, has been named to the High Honor Roll for the fall term at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. The school is a college preparatory school for grades nine through 12 that fosters critical thinking and a global perspective in students.

Kayla Brown of Bentonville was inducted into William Woods University’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success Dec. 5 in Fulton, Mo.

Annemarie Jones of Siloam Springs was recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Jones was initiated at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.

Emily Schaefer of Rogers has been named to the President’s List at Benedictine College in Atchinson, Kan. To achieve the President’s List, students must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours and have a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Of the 1,742 undergraduate students on campus, only 93 made the President’s List the past semester.

Jennifer Garcia of Siloam Springs was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. Students earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while taking 12 or more credit hours are awarded the distinction of Dean’s List honors.

Washington County

Katherine Kroening of Fayetteville recently performed in the annual St. Olaf College Christmas Festival in Northfield, Minn. Kroening is a member of the Manitou Singers at St. Olaf College. She is the daughter of Robert and Paige Kroening and is a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

Cynthia D. Romero has been named to the Scholastic Honor Roll for the fall semester at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore. Romero earned a straight-A average and is a senior horticulture major.

Carly E. Horne of Fayetteville graduated with a graduate level degree during commencement ceremonies Dec. 14, 2013, at Albert Taylor Hall at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan.

Danielle Ryan of Fayetteville graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., this winter. She is a graduate of Fayetteville High School and received a bachelor of science degree in business in accounting.

Hannah Hood, a student at Harding University in Searcy, has recently returned from a three-month semester studying in Zambia. Hood spent the fall 2013 semester immersed in Zambian culture and cultivating new relationships with fellow students. After a three-day safari in Boswana, students visited mission teams in Tanzania and Rwanda at the conclusion of the trip. Hood also carried a full course load.

Ramay Junior High School in Fayetteville has earned the Most Improved End-of-Course Exam Growth from 2007 to 2013 award from the Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas. The award is based on the OEP-created school grade-point average, which is calculated based on the percentage of students who perform at a set level on exams. The awards are given to junior high and high schools that have shown the greatest improvement. Other schools in the Northwest Arkansas region to earn the award include Bentonville High School, Rogers High School, Farmington High School, St. Paul High School, Gravette High School, Pea Ridge High School, Mt. Judea High School, Deer High School, Lamar High School, Haas Hall Academy in Fayetteville, George Junior High School in Springdale, Greenwood Junior High, Oakdale Middle School and Elmwood Middle School in Rogers and Pea Ridge Middle School.

Area

Pattie Finch of Berryville competed for Willam Wood’s University at Color Breed Congress Nov. 5-10 in Tulsa, Okla. She was the winner of two top five awards riding Rhett Hot Butler.

Justin Legris, a native of Fort Smith, appeared on the nationally televised “Christmas at Belmont” concert on Dec. 24 on PBS. Hosted by internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and taped at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, more than 800 student musicians joined the Belmont School of Music faculty and the Nashville Children’s Choir for the taping of “Christmas at Belmont.”
