Obama resubmits judge nominations

President Barack Obama on Monday again submitted two nominations to the Senate for federal judge seats in Arkansas.

The president made the original nominations last year. The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee recommended the Senate confirm the nominations in November, but a full vote was not taken before the end of the year.

Monday’s submissions were two of dozens sent to the Senate and announced by the White House on Monday afternoon.

Obama nominated Timothy Brooks of Fayetteville for U.S. district judge for the Western District of Arkansas in June. Brooks would fill a vacant federal judgeship seat.

The president also nominated Pulaski County Circuit Judge Jay Moody for a U.S. district judge seat in the Eastern District of Arkansas in late July. Moody would replace Judge Susan Webber Wright of Little Rock, who is taking senior status.

Moody, the son of U.S. District Judge James Moody, graduated from the W.H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1989. He has been a circuit judge in Pulaski County since 2003.

Brooks earned his law degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1989. Brooks is a partner at Taylor Law Partners in Fayetteville.

U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor, a Democrat, and John Boozman, a Republican, spoke in favor of both candidates during hearings before the Judiciary Committee.
