No Injuries In Fayetteville Plant Accident

FAYETTEVILLE — No one was injured in a minor industrial accident Friday evening at Elkhart Products on South School Avenue.

Firefighters went to the plant about 5:15 p.m. Shortly afterward smoke and steam could be seen billowing from the building’s north end, where several fire trucks were grouped. The smoke dissipated about half an hour later as daylight faded.

Battalion Chief Mauro Campos said a piece of equipment making copper tubing overheated. An emergency cooling system then flooded it with water.

“The equipment used its water-cooling ability, which turned the water into steam,” Campos said.

Campos said all employees safely evacuated from the building.
