Six ways to walk on the wild side

Do you want to learn about beekeeping? How about fi nding owls? Or maybe you want to see lions, zebras and monkeys up close? There’s a critter-related event or location for just about everyone this month in Northwest Arkansas.

  1. Eagle Awareness Weekend

About 100 bald eagles typically visit the Bull Shoals area each year, according to arkansasstateparks.com.

Weekend activities include lake tours, guided bird walks, guest speakers, live bird demonstrations and entertainment.

These beekeeping classes for beginners will cover beehives and other equipment, honey bee biology, seasonal colony management tasks and keeping hives healthy by managing pests and diseases, according to the Cooperative Extension Service website, uaex.edu. The classes are sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service and Northwest Arkansas Beekeepers Association.

  1. New Habitat for Willy

Willy, a lion at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, was released into his new habitat late December. Check out this lion and other animals such as leopards and tigers at the refuge.
