Throng in mile-high city trumpets legal ‘pot’ sales

Price soars as new year kicks off recreational use

Sean Azzariti, a former Marine who served in the Iraq war and has post-traumatic stress disorder, on Wednesday becomes the first to buy retail marijuana at 3D Cannabis Center in Denver after Colorado began legal recreational-marijuana sales.

Crowds were serenaded by live music as they waited for the nation’s first legal recreational marijuana shops to open. They ate doughnuts and funnel cakes as a glass blower made smoking pipes.
