Explosion preceded blaze in Minneapolis apartments

Firefighters work Wednesday to extinguish a fire that damaged several apartment units in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood in Minneapolis after an explosion was reported at 8:15 a.m. Authorities say 14 people were taken to hospitals and six were reported in critical condition.

A billowing fire engulfed a three-story building with several apartments near downtown Minneapolis early Wednesday, sending more than a dozen people to hospitals with injuries — some critical — including burns and trauma associated with falls.
