Friday, February 28, 2014

FAYETTEVILLE -- A community garden registration planned for Sunday will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Senior Activity and Wellness Center.

Residents interested in reserving a plot at two community gardens are encouraged to attend.

There are 33 plots at a garden outside the senior center, 945 S. College Ave., and 10 plots at the Jefferson Adult Education Center, 612 S. College Ave.

Plots range in size from 50 square feet ($20) to 100 square feet ($40) at the senior center and 30 square feet ($15) to 60 square feet ($30) at the Jefferson school.

Attendees can meet fellow gardeners, hear about volunteer opportunities and learn about community gardening at Tuesday's event. Those who register will receive a welcome packet and seeds, according to a news release.

Plots will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, starting with gardeners from last year who have registered.

Grants are available for residents who meet specific income requirements.
