Bentonville Middle School Teacher Cleared

— An Ardis Ann Middle School teacher was cleared of wrongdoing following investigations by law enforcement and the School District, Superintendent Michael Poore said Tuesday.

The district received a complaint earlier this month about the teacher regarding "inappropriate actions taken by the teacher toward a student or students," Poore said, though he wouldn't go into further details.

The teacher was placed on paid administrative leave Feb. 12. The district received the results of the police investigation last week. Both the Arkansas State Police and the Bentonville Police Department were involved in the case.

The teacher has not yet returned to work, but likely will by the end of the week.

"It's a transition of sorts," Poore said. "We want to make sure all of our ducks are in a row."

Poore declined to identify the teacher, in accordance with advice from the district's attorney. He also refused comment on whether the district considered necessary any kind of disciplinary action or counseling for the teacher.

"We maintain that to be part of personnel matters," Poore said. "But there were no material findings from the (Bentonville police) or the folks at the state level or in our own internal investigation."
