NFL SCOUTING COMBINE

Clowney turns heads at combine

Former South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (top) was expected to turn in eye-opening numbers Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

And he delivered.

Clowney, 6-5, 266 pounds, was clocked at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash, according to NFL.com. NFL Network reported the time was 4.53. Either time is the fastest among the defensive linemen at the combine.

Former Arkansas defensive end Chris Smith (right) also fared well at the combine Monday, running a 4.71 in the 40-yard dash and had powerful performances in the vertical leap and standing broad jump.

Arkansas State’s Ryan Carrethers (above) and Arkansas’ Robert Thomas tied for third among the defensive linemen with 32 reps in the 225-pound bench press.
