Rogers Residents Get Second Chance To Weigh In On Lake Atalanta Road Issue

— The final public meeting on whether to keep the road around Lake Atalanta open is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday in City Council chambers at City Hall, 301 W. Chestnut St.

Thirty-three people attended an earlier meeting on the topic. Those attending were asked to vote on whether to keep the road open or close it to vehicular traffic. Thirty voted to keep the road open.

City planners have said there are four options regarding the road:

• Keep the road open, and build a boardwalk along the shoreline and a concrete trail.

• Pave the road and build a boardwalk along the shoreline.

• Close the road and use it as trail.

• Build a 15-foot-wide paved trail that could be used as a road for emergency vehicles.

The project is part of the larger plan to renovate the lake and the park.

The meeting is scheduled to end at 5:30 p.m. Comments from the first and the second meetings will be compiled and sent to the City Council for action.
