West Memphis rolls over Cabot

WEST MEMPHIS - The West Memphis boys ended their Friday game on a 10-2 run and held Cabot scoreless from the field over the final 5:40 in a 38-25 victory at Lehr Arena.

West Memphis (11-13, 5-7 7A/6AEast) avenged a 75-56 loss last month to the Panthers (15-9, 6-6) in which Cabot shot 64.2 from the floor.

On Friday night, the Panthers were 8 of 23 (34.8 percent).

The Blue Devils got behind early last month at Cabot, but they bolted to a 14-2 lead in the early moments of the second quarter Friday night.

West Memphis, which shot 13 of 27 (48.1 percent) from the floor, led 16-10 at halftime. Cabot got no closer than three points in the second half.

West Memphis hit 3 of 4 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, including 8 of 8 in the final 1:54. The Blue Devils have made 20 of their last 21 free throws in the fourth quarter over the past two games, both victories.

Cabot’s Nick Thomas, who led the Panthers with 11 points, hit a jumper with 5:40 to play in the fourth quarter to cut West Memphis’ lead to 28-23.

But the Blue Devils scored the next 10 points to put the game away. Gary Henderson, who hit 4 of 4 free throws in the final minute, led West Memphis with 13 points. Vakemeyus Davis scored 8 of his 12 points in the first quarter.
