SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 6, ABILENE CHRISTIAN 4

Central Arkansas pounded out 12 hits, including three by Tyler Langley, as the Bears earned a nonconference victory over Abilene Christian at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.

The Bears (2-3) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but scored three runs in the third inning and never trailed again.

Bryce Biggerstaff earned the victory, allowing 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Langley went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI.

SUN BELT UALR 3, BRADLEY 0

Travis McDonald had a strong pitching performance and UALR got key hits from Hayden Martin and Tanner Rockwell as UALR handed Bradley its first loss at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

McDonald retired Bradley’s first 11 hitters in order, getting three strikeouts before allowing a two-out single in the fourth inning.

UALR (5-0) scored in the third inning as right fielder Sam Vogel legged out an infield single, then scored two batters later on a double by Martin. He moved to third base on a wild pitch, then scored on Ben Crumpton’s ground out to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

McDonald improved to 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA after getting 6 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Brent Mason earned his third save.

ILLINOIS STATE 4, ARKANSAS STATE 3

Arkansas State (3-2) suffered its second consecutive loss, falling to Illinois State at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

The Red Wolves (3-2) pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Austin Baker reached on a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a balk and then scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit. Matt Burgess also reached base in the inning, but was stranded.

In the bottom of the ninth, Baker reached with a two-out walk. But Burgess struck out to end to the comeback threat.

Bradley Wallace (1-1) took the loss after giving up four runs in four innings. He also had five strikeouts and walked one.

Stuart Levy went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, while Burgess was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

SWAC AUBURN 2, UAPB 1

Senior Dillon Ortman dazzled Arkansas-Pine Bluff hitters for eight innings and closer Terrance Dedrick overpowered them in the ninth at Plainsman Park as Auburn (3-2) managed just three hits en route to a victory over the winless Golden Lions (0-7) at the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala.

Ortman (2-0) gave up four hits, struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter. Dedrick struck out the side in the ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Starter Kyle Schwartz gave up two hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Auburn scored runs in the fourth and seventh innings to take a 2-0 lead. In the eighth, UAPB catcher Mike Wieland singled, moved to third on a fielding error and scored on Kirby Campbell’s single to make the score 2-1.

Kyle Schwartz took the loss for the Lions.
