Springdale Schools Experience Power Outage

SPRINGDALE -- Three Springdale School District buildings were without power for more than 30 minutes Thursday.

Electricity was out at Springdale High School, Elmdale Elementary School and the district office, according to Rick Schaeffer, district communications director.

The power went off at 9:43 a.m. and was out for 32 minutes, according to Peter Main, spokesman for Southwestern Electric Power Company. The outage affected 1,700 customers.

Classes continued during the outage, Schaeffer said, with some doubling up in classrooms with more natural light. Disruption to the school day was minimal, he said.

Police had to direct traffic at the intersection of Huntsville Avenue and Pleasant Street when the outage left the signal out of commission, said Lt. Derek Hudson, Police Department public information officer.

The cause of the outage was a downed line on Christian Street, Main said. The reason for the fallen line wasn't known Thursday.
