— A decibel meter at the Springdale High scorer’s table hit 113 during the Bulldogs’ game against crosstown rival Springdale Har-Ber on Tuesday night.

That’s noise comparable to a rock concert and nearing a level that could cause ear damage. The home crowd had plenty to cheer about.

Springdale led from start to finish, taking Har-Ber out of the game with its defensive pressure in a 65-34 mercy-rule win in Bulldog Gym.

Har-Ber (11-12, 3-8): L. Jones 6, Buccheri 5, Brandon 5, Fox 4, R. Jones 4, Cline 2, Davis 2, Anderson 2, Mahan 2, Collins 1.

Springdale (17-5, 9-2): Owens 15, Eckwood 13, Evans 13, J. Wymer 8, Gause 5, D. Wymer 5, Cook 4, Tutt 1, Curtis 1.

“We just fed off each other,” Springdale coach Brad Stamps said. “We talked about creating your own energy. Even though you’re going to have a crowd and community behind you, create your own energy. And I thought we shared it early. We got some run-outs and transition. Overall, for four quarters I think our defense was really, really good.”

The Bulldogs (17-5, 9-2 7A/6A-West) bounced back from a last-second loss at Siloam Springs with the win.

The early stages of the Har-Ber game mirrored Springdale’s start at Siloam — 6-0 and 14-3 leads. Only the Bulldogs didn’t leave any room for a comeback Tuesday.

“A lot of that has to do with our senior, Cory Stewart, Stamps said. “That first timeout, I let Cory have the timeout. The stuff he said was right on. ‘We’ve been here before. Do not let up.’ At halftime we kept reiterating that it was still a ballgame. A lot of our senior leadership came out tonight in conversations.”

Junior guard Chris Owens scored a game-high 15 points, while Tereke Eckwood and D.J. Evans added 13 each. But it was the Bulldogs’ defense that got the job done.

Springdale forced 23 Har-Ber turnovers while allowing just 11 made field goals. Landan Jones scored a team-high six points for the Wildcats (11-12, 3-8).

“We played a little different on screening action,” Stamps said. “Usually we hard trap it, but tonight we switched it because we didn’t want to leave open shooters. (They had) one three. And they’re a 3-point shooting team. So I thought we did a good job running them off the line and crowding them.”

Springdale led 35-21 at halftime and quickly put the game out of reach in the third quarter. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 33 in the fourth quarter with both teams’ reserves on the court.
