BASEBALL UALR to host SEMO today

UALR’s baseball game with Southeast Missouri State, which was orginially scheduled to be played in Cape Girardeau, Mo., today has been switched to Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock after unplayable field conditions forced the Red Hawks to move the game.

The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. today with Chad Bradford expected to start for the Trojans.

Townsend, Taylor earn GAC honors

Southern Arkansas’ William Townsend was named Great American Conference player of the week after going 7 for 12 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBI in a weekend series against Southwestern Oklahoma.

Arkansas Tech pitcher Ryan Taylor was named GAC pitcher of the week after allowing 1 run over 6 2/3 innings in a 5-1 victory against Southern Nazarene Friday.

GAC teams move up in polls

After going 2-1 against Southwestern Oklahoma, Southern Arkansas moved to No. 4 in the D2baseballnews.com poll and to No. 5 in the College Baseball Newspaper poll

Arkansas-Monticello moved to No. 17 in D2BaseballNews.com, fell to No. 16 in the latest College Baseball Lineup and fell to No. 24 in the The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.

The Boll Weevills (7-2, 2-1 Great American Conference) went 2-1 against Northwestern Oklahoma State over the weekend.

Arkansas Tech’s Friedel honored by GAC

Arkansas Tech’s Tyler Friedel was named Great American Conference men’s basketball player of the week after making 11-of-21 three pointers in two games in helping the Wonder Boys move into first place in the GAC.

He scored a career-high 35 points at Ouachita Baptist and hit the game-winning three pointer with 14 seconds left in a 58-56 victory over Henderson State.

SOFTBALL UAM splits with Minnesota-Duluth

Arkansas-Monticello (7-4) split with Minnesota-Duluth (4-4) Monday in the final games of the 8-State Classic in Bentonville.

Arkansas-Monticello won the first game 2-0 behind a complete game from Courtney Wilson, who recorded her second shutout of the season before losing the second game 2-0, leaving 16 runners on base.

GOLF Arkansas women lead in Puerto Rico

Arkansas leads the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico after shooting a 571 through the first two rounds. Arkansas shot a 283 in the first round and a 288 in the second round.

Gabriela Lopez, Emma Lavy and Emily Tubert shot a second-round 68. The three Razorbacks are in second place with a 141 after shooting 73-68.

UALR women third

The UALR women’s team is in third place through two rounds at the Jim West Challenge at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas, with a 46-over-par 614. Gonzaga (591) leads the 15-team event. Host Texas State (600) is second.

Freshman Melodie Jean Dit Berthelot leads the Trojans and is tied for fourth with a 6-over 148. Junior Sofie Kvarnstrom is in ninth place with a 9-over 151. Junior Sofia Berglund shot a 10-over 152 on Monday.
