Fayetteville Police Say Almost 20 Cars Broken Into In One Day

— A cluster of neighborhoods in north Fayetteville were struck by more than a dozen car break-ins late Sunday or early Monday.

Callers reported 14 breaking-and-entering incidents on or near North Quail Creek Drive and North Stagecoach Drive, according to police records.

Five occurred on Stagecoach and three on Quail Creek. In addition to the 14 in that area, three other isolated incidents were reported elsewhere in town.

“A lot of these cases are going to be related,” Sgt. Craig Stout said. “It looks like somebody just went through a neighborhood.

“This would be another opportune time to tell folks to lock their doors and remove their valuables out of sight,” Stout added.

A teacher on North Stanton Avenue reported a backpack holding his laptop was taken. A resident of Quail Creek said a Ruger 9 mm handgun was missing from his vehicle.

Stout said officers were responding to some of the incidents when they noticed other break-ins. Investigators Monday afternoon contacted a newspaper carrier. It wasn’t clear if any leads arose.

“They’re out and about every morning in the same neighborhood,” Stout said. “Mail, UPS — those are great witnesses for something like this. They know every car, they know everything out of place.”
