SUN BELT UALR 7, CREIGHTON 1

Mitchell Scheuler hit a three-run home run and Cameron Allen held Creighton to 1 run in 7 innings as UALR completed a season-opening sweep of the Bluejays on Sunday at Gary Hogan Field.

Scheuler’s home run came in a four-run third to help the Trojans (3-0) take a 6-1 lead. Tanner Rockwell also had a sacrifice fly in the inning. Ryan Scott homered to lead off the seventh for UALR, which had 12 hits.

Scott went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, while Justin Steelmon went 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored and Austin Pfeiffer added two hits.

Allen held Creighton (0-3) to 1 second-inning run and 3 hits while striking out 6 in 7 innings. Josh Merrill and Dyllon Brownmiller each pitched scoreless innings for the Trojans.

ARKANSAS STATE 13, MIAMI (OHIO) 3

JONESBORO - Austin Baker and Matt Burgess each each had three hits and combined to drive in five runs to help Arkansas State complete a season-opening sweep on Sunday at Tomlinson Stadium.

Burgess, who drove in 3 runs Sunday, had 6 hits and 6 RBI in the series, while Baker finished the series with 5 hits and 5 RBI.

The Red Wolves (3-0) scored in six of the first seven innings, and scored three runs in the third and the sixth. Baker hit an RBI triple in the third inning, and later scored on an error.

Zach George, Derek Birginske and Dustin Jones each had two hits for the Red Wolves.

David Owen earned his first victory after giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits and striking out 1 in 5 innings. Morgan Croft and Tanner Ring held Miami (Ohio) (0-3) scoreless in a combined three innings of relief.

SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 6, MISSOURI STATE 4

CONWAY - Nate Ferrell’s bases loaded single with two outs in the eighth inning drove in two runs to break a tie game, then Ben Ancheff pitched a perfect ninth tohelp Central Arkansas earn its first victory of the season.

The Bears (1-2) loaded the bases when Doug Votolato reached on a throwing error, Justin Treece singled and Scott Zimmerle walked before Ferrell’s winning single.

Ferrell finished 2 of 3 with a run scored, while Treece also had two hits and scored two runs for the Bears, who had 10 hits.

Chris Caudle earned the victory after pitching two scoreless innings.

SWAC TULANE 11, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 4

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane scored six runs in the bottom of the first off Arkansas-Pine Bluff starter Dixon Marble to rally from an early deficit and hand the Golden Lions a fourth-consecutive loss.

UAPB (0-4) took a 2-0 lead on Joshua Cassidy’s RBI single and Kirby Campbell’s RBI groundout, then got within 6-4 in the sixth on Isias Alcantar’s RBI groundout and Cassidy’s RBI single. But Tulane held UAPB scoreless the rest of the game.

Cassidy went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, and Andre Davis went 2 for 4 for the Golden Lions.
