SOFTBALL Arkansas finishes sweep

Arkansas scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0 victory over Missouri-Kansas City and complete a series sweep.

Kasey Fagan hit her third home run of the season and Shelby Hiers hit her first, a first-inning grand slam, to lead the Razorbacks (7-3), who added three runs in the second inning.

Grace Moll and Sydney Wright held Missouri-Kansas City (5-5) to two hits in five innings and each struck out one.

UCA loses to No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette

Central Arkansas was held to two hits in a loss to No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday in Lafayette, La.

Sam Forrest and Hannah Stirton collected the Bears’ only hits off Ragin Cajuns’ pitcher Jordan Wallace, who walked 5 and struck out 8 in the complete-game victory.

Ciara Clampitt started for the Bears (3-7), giving up 2 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings before Louisiana-Lafayette (6-3-1) scored 2 runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Cotton Blossoms split

Arkansas-Monticello fell to Fort Hays State 5-3 and beat Southwest Baptist 6-2 at the 8-State Classic on Sunday in Bentonville.

Sarah Matthews hit a two-run home run and Hannah Pendley had two hits and scored two runs for the Cotton Blossoms (6-3) in the victory over Southwest Baptist.

Harding wins two

Harding defeated Oklahoma Panhandle 10-5 and Drury 5-4 Sunday at the 8-State Classic in Bentonville. In the first game, Harding had 10 runs on 15 hits with Amanda Berdon going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI. Kinsey Beck went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Kimmy Hendricks had two hits and a home run. Danielle Hubbard picked up the victory, pitching 7 innings, giving up 2 runs while striking out 6.

In the second game, Harding withstood a late rally by Drury in which the Panthers scored twice, but managed to get Drury to leave a runner in scoring position as the game ended.

Harding scored four runs in the second inning when Hendricks drove in two.

Brookelynn Moon led Harding by going three for three.

Hubbard picked up the victory, pitching 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4.

BASEBALL Boll Weevils rally for victory

Corey Wood hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to lead Arkansas-Monticello to an 8-5 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday in Alva, Okla.

The victory gave the Boll Weevils, ranked 15th in NCAA Division II, a series victory over the Great American Conference foe. Austin Braddock added three hits and scored two runs for the Boll Weevils (7-2, 2-1).

Braddock started the game, giving up 4 runs in 3 2/3 innings pitch before Gavin Johnson held the Rangers (5-3, 1-2) to 1 run in 3 innings to earn his first victory over the season.

Harding finishes sweep

Zac Stewart had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Davis Richardson also drove in 2 runs in Harding’s 9-4 victory over Truman State on Sunday in Searcy.

Matt Calhoun and Erin McCarver each drove in a run for the Bisons (5-2), who had 11 hits as a team. Logan Holthaus held Truman State (0-3) to 4runs, 2 earned, on 6 hits and struck out 2 in 6 innings.

Hendrix loses two

Hendrix gave up four runs in the top of the eight in a 5-4 loss to Hardin-Simmons and then four runs in the fifth of a 7-1 loss to Texas-Dallas in a doubleheader on Sunday in Frisco, Texas.

Jacob Perschke had two hits and scored two runs for the Warriors (0-4) in the loss to Hardin-Simmons, while Collin Radack had two hits and scored their only run in the first inning of the second game.

Lions lose series finale

All 10 of Arkansas-Fort Smith’s hits were singles in an 8-4 loss to Central Oklahoma on Sunday in Edmond, Okla.

The victory finished a sweep of the Lions for Central Oklahoma, after winning the first two games by run-rule, 11-1 and 18-3.

Ozzie Hurt went 3 for 4 for the Lions (3-3), while Justin Shealy was 2 for 4 and Josh Vanderpool was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

BASKETBALL Hendrix’s streak ends

The Hendrix women’s basketball team was held to 36 percent shooting in a 63-58 loss to Berry College on Sunday in Mount Berry, Ga.,

The loss snapped the Lady Warriors’ four-game winning streak, and it was the second time this season Berry snapped a streak that long by Hendrix.

Caitlyn Kriesel-Bigler led Hendrix (11-12, 5-7 Southern Athletic Association) with 17 points, while Taylor Neal had 11 points and Jamie Tate pulled down 10 rebounds.

Mel McClean had 19 points for Berry (12-11, 5-7), and Megan Walsh had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Warriors fall on road

The Hendrix men’s basketball team had four players score 10 or more points, but committed 22 turnovers in losing 78-70 to Berry College on Sunday in Mount Berry, Ga.

Drew Nikolovski made four three-pointers and scored 18 points, while Colton Primm had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors (10-13, 4-8 Southern Athletic Association). Luke Vance added 13 points and Jordan Barrett scored 10, but Berry (5-18, 2-10) had four players score 15 or more points on its way to a victory.

Mac Whelan had 21 points, Hunter Smoak had 20, while Lee McCloud scored 16 and Owen Jacobs had 15 points and 16 rebounds.

BOWLING ASU wins in Houston

The Arkansas State women’s bowling team won the final day of the Sam Houston State Kat Klash Invitational by recording a total pinfall of 4,175 and a 5-0 record on Sunday in Houston.

The Red Wolves (74-22) began the day with a 778-688 victory over Alabama-Birmingham, a 802-801 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater, then beat Texas Southern, Louisiana Tech 967-823 and Nebraska 809-760.

ASU won all three of the one-day events and finished with a 15-1 record.

GOLF Arkansas wins Gator Invitational

Sebastian Cappelen and Taylor Moore both shot 68s in leading the Arkansas Razorbacks to a victory at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.

Arkansas finished with a 1-under-par 849 with rounds of 286, 284 and 279, finishing six shots ahead of Florida State.

Cappelen and Moore finished with an even-par 210 to finish tied for fourth. William Meason finished tied for 14th with a 216.
