Chili Supper, Pie Sale to Benefit Northwest Arkansas Firefighters Group

— A chili supper and pie auction on Saturday will help raise money to buy bagpipes for the Natural Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society, a fraternal organization of firefighters.

The group has been practicing on chanters for almost a year to prepare to play the bagpipes. In a few more months they’ll be ready to make the switch, said Scott Mendham, vice president and founding member of the corps and a Rogers firefighter and paramedic.

Once they get bagpipes and drums, they will be the first firefighter pipes and drums corps in Northwest Arkansas. Mendham estimates each set of bagpipes cost about $1,500.

The chili supper will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of Oakley Chapel, 203 S. Promenade Blvd., in Rogers. All-you-can-eat chili tickets are $7 and can be purchased in the online store at www.naturalfools.com or call 479-872-5272. Children 5 and under eat free. The group is accepting pie donations for a silent auction. To donate pies call 479-640-6518.
