Siloam Springs Man Gets 30 Years In Prison

MORRIS IS A LEVEL 3 SEX OFFENDER

BENTONVILLE — A Siloam Springs man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he failed to abide by laws concerning registered sex oft enders.

Mark Todd Morris, 47, a Level 3 sex offender, was charged as a habitual oft ender with failure to register as a sex oftender, a Class C felony; and three counts of a registered oftender unlawfully residing near a school or daycare, a Class D felony.

He was found guilty during a one-day jury trial Thursday in Circuit Judge Robin Green’s court.

Morris was accused of failing to provide a change of address and for living within 2,000 feet of a school or daycare.

Prosecutors presented evidence Morris didn’t change his address when he moved from Gentry to Siloam Springs.

Morris was required to register in connection with a Georgia conviction for enticing a child for sexual purposes. That case involved a 13-year-old girl.

It took the jury about 13 minutes to f ind Morris guilty of each of the charges. The jury recommended Morris serve 10 years for the Class C felony and four years for each of the Class D felonies — a 22-year sentence if served consecutively.

This wasn’t Morris’ first conviction for failing to comply with registration laws. Morris pleaded guilty in August 2012 to failure to comply with reporting requirements, a Class C felony. He was placed on 10 years of state supervised probation.

Green revoked the probation and ordered Morris to serve eight years prison.

Green ordered all of the sentences be served consecutively, which meant a 30-year sentence for Morris.

Morris must serve at least five years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
