COLLEGE FOOTBALL Arkansas Red-White game scheduled

The Arkansas football team’s Red-White spring game will kick off at 1 p.m. April 26 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville and will be televised by Cox Sports Television, the university announced Tuesday.

The Red-White game, which is free, attracted a school-record crowd of 51,088 in Coach Bret Bielema’s first season last year. The attendance marked a third consecutive school record spring game crowd for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas will open the 2014 season Aug. 30 at Auburn with the SEC Network on hand. The Razorbacks’ home opener is the following week against Nicholls State.

BASEBALL Hogs picked fifth in SEC West

Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn said his team is eager to prove SEC coaches wrong after the Razorbacks were picked to finish fifth in the SEC West in voting released Tuesday.

“I don’t like being picked fifth,” Van Horn said after his Swatter’s Club appearance. “But that’s where they picked us, and now we’ve got 30 games to prove we’re better than that.”

The Razorbacks open the season with a three-game series against Appalachian State, beginning Friday at 3:05 p.m. at Baum Stadium.

South Carolina was the choice of league coaches to win the SEC East and the regular-season title with five first-place votes, edging LSU and Mississippi State, who each received four first-place votes. LSU was projected to win the SEC West, followed by Mississippi State, Alabama and Texas A&M (which were tied for fourth), the Razorbacks, Ole Miss and Auburn.

In the East, South Carolina was followed by Vanderbilt, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Missouri in the projections.
