Pulaski Academy gets its revenge

Pulaski Academy rallied down the stretch to defeat visiting Little Rock McClellan 69-56 on Tuesday night in a battle for second place in the 5A-Central standings.

It was quite a turnaround from the teams’ previous meeting, when Mc-Clellan dominated the Bruins 82-61.

“It was as bad as anyone has beaten us all year,’’ Pulaski Academy Coach Roger Franks said. “We’ve only lost four games, and it was our worst loss.”

Lawson Korita scored 31 points, including 11 in the first quarter, and Marcus Wallace scored 20 points and helped hold Pulaski Academy together late as it outscored McClellan 17-3 over the final five minutes.

“I thought he made some big plays, and Lawson Korita had a big night,” Franks said. “Chard Michatis had a big night on the boards. It was everybody tonight, and we needed every bit of it.”

McClellan trailed most of the night but rallied and took a 53-52 lead on Quawn Marshall’s three-pointer with 6:08 left, but the Lions went cold from there. McClellan made only one of it final 10 shots and had five turnovers down the stretch.

“We did kind of fall apart, but I don’t think it happened there,” McClellan Coach Chris Threatt said. “We were just out of sync the entire night. I think you have to give PA some of that credit. It is easy to say what you didn’t do, but PA was just more prepared.”

Andre Jones led McClellan with 12 points, and Keith Hayes and Tryin Hollins scored nine each.
