— A man was arrested Monday in connection with inappropriately touching a 4-year-old girl, according to a Rogers Police Department news release Tuesday.

Jose Angel Hernandez-Ortiz, 42, of 2102 Commons Drive, Apt. 5, was arrested on charges of sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony.

The girl told her mother Hernandez-Ortiz had “stung” her when he touched her Dec. 26, according to the probable cause affidavit. The mother went to police four days later.

During an interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center last month, the girl told officials she was sleeping when Hernandez-Ortiz touched her. The incident occurred after a babysitter left the girl with Hernandez-Ortiz, who is her ex-husband, and her sister while she went to the store, according to the affidavit.

Hernandez-Ortiz denied touching the child in a sexual manner to police in January, according to the affidavit.

He was being held Tuesday at the Benton County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
