North Little Rock rallies for victory

CABOT - Sophomore Kyra Collier scored 19 points and junior Malica Monk blocked a key shot in the final 15 seconds as North Little Rock rallied for a 48-46 victory over Cabot in a 7A/6AEast Conference game Monday night.

Collier scored 17 of her points in the second half. Senior Dajha Hardamon added 10 points and Monk finished with nine points as the Lady Charging Wildcats (15-6, 6-2) won their fourth consecutive game.

The game was North Little Rock’s first in nine days.The game was originally scheduled for last Friday, but icy conditions forced the game to be postponed to first Saturday afternoon and then to Monday.

“We were playing on snow legs,” North Little Rock Coach Daryl Fimple said.

Cabot’s Anna Sullivan came off the bench and led her team with 19 points and nine rebounds, but she was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Sullivan had a chance to tie the game at 46-46 with 15 seconds to play, but Monk rejected Sullivan’s driving shot and then chased down the rebound.

Collier gave the Lady Charging Wildcats a 48-44 lead with two free throws with 8.3 seconds to play. Alyssa Hamilton’s putback with 1.2 seconds left capped the game’s scoring.

“Malica’s block was one of the most phenominal plays I’ve seen all year,” Fimple said. “Especially considering who she blocked. Malica does something amazing almost every game.”

Hamilton finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Cabot (11-11, 2-6). Junior guard Danielle McWilliams added nine points.
